Anläßlich des 30. Geburtstages des "Tatorts" nimmt die Dokumentation filmische Ermittlungen auf. Es geht um das Erfolgsgeheimnis der beliebtesten deutschen Krimireihe. Warum schauen regelmäßig bis zu zehn Millionen Menschen den Tatort-Kommissaren bei der Arbeit zu? Was macht die Darsteller zu Stars, die Sendung zum Kult? Die Suche führt an verschiedene "Tatorte". An den Drehort des Jubiläums-Tatort in Leipzig, an die Wohnorte und Arbeitsplätze von Schauspielern, Regisseuren und Drehbuchautoren. Und in die Archive der ARD. Dort lagern weit über 400 Folgen Tatort, darunter TV-Juwelen wie "Reifezeugnis".

In dem Film erinnern sich vor allem Kommissar-Darsteller an die Höhepunkte einer 30järhigen Erfolgsgeschichte. Darunter Götz George, Hansjörg Felmy, Manfred Krug, Charles Brauer, Peter Sodann, Bernd Michael Lade, Miro Nemec, Ulrike Folkerts, Klaus J. Behrendt, Dietmar Bär.

On the occasion of the 30th birthday of Tatort (Crime Scene), this documentary takes up an investigation with the camera, trying to determine the secret of the success of the most popular crime series on German television. What makes up to ten million people regularly watch the Tatort detectives at work? What turns the actors into stars and why has the program become a cult? Our investigation is conducted in various "crime scenes": on the location where the Tatort anniversary episode was filmed in Leipzig, at the houses and workplaces of the actors, directors and scriptwriters. And in the archives of the ARD. Well over 400 episodes of Tatort are stored there, among them television jewels like "Reifezeugnis" (The graduation certificate).
