Erst Jahre später erfährt die Öffentlichkeit, dass Hannelore Kohl die Auftritte zunehmend schwer fielen. Sie war krank. Die Dokumentation blickt hinter die Kulissen dieser öffentlichen Ehe. Zahlreiche Freunde und politische Weggefährten berichten über Aufstieg und Krisen der Kohls. Dabei wird offenkundig: Der gemeinsame Lebensweg des Politikerehepaars Kohl führte stets in eine Richtung - in die, die er vorgab.

Helmut and Hannelore Kohl: a marriage with a traditional role model. He embarks for a great career while she takes care of the children. But his life as a politician demands more from her. She has to act in public, like him. It is but for that she embraces this life, but with increasing reluctance. While he is gaining political power, her smile petrifies more and more.
Only years later it becomes known in the public that the public appearances became more and more difficult for her. She was ill.

The documentary looks behind the scenes of this public marriage. Numerous friends and political companions report about rise and crises of the Kohls. Obviously the couple's path of life always lead in one direction - the one that he determined.
