Playing with Fire. The Work of Event Artists

Report, 30 minutes
Written and directed by Katrin Kammer

Walls come tumbling down. Chairs and tables explode, people disappear in smoke. In the middle of it all is a man whose hat spews fire: pyroartist Pierre-Alain Hubert, performing at a theater festival in Germany. The 53-year-old Frenchman is capable of setting fire to his hand during a conversation. The German event manager Klaus Schaeffer and his Frankfurt-based company Artmobil conceived a spectacle for the EXPO 2000 in Hanover. A unique multimedia art performance that attracted some 13,000 spectators daily. They were delighted when a burning man fell from the Hermes tower and the lake went up in flames. Katrin Kammer watched the event artists at their spectacular work.
