The documentary “Escape to Europe – The Winter” poses three main questions: What is the role of Turkey? Are the old and new border fences able to stem the flow of refugees? And last but not least: How do the refugees live among us, while the mood shifts in large parts of the German population? Several film crews have traveled across the continent and accompanied refugees on the Turkish Mediterranean coast. Humanitarian crises in the protective barriers of the North African Melilla or in Calais demonstrate the weaknesses of the policy of isolation.
